Umeå University offers scholarships each year, in conjunction with the Autumn term admission, to academically talented and high-achieving students. Scholarships offered are in the form of tuition-waivers. Selected candidates receive a full or partial waiver of the tuition fee.

Umeå University (Swedish: Umeå Universitet) is a university in Umeå in the mid-northern region of Sweden.The university was founded in 1965 and is Sweden’s fifth oldest university.As one of the leading comprehensive universities in the nation, it is a dynamic meeting place where interdisciplinary knowledge is generated and disseminated.

Eligibility:

• A Umeå University programme as priority 1 at universityadmissions.se.
• Completed your study application before the application deadline (15 January 2018).

The selections are based entirely on the applicant’s academic merit. A committee appointed by the Vice-Chancellor is tasked with selecting candidates for scholarships.

For autumn term 2017 intake, 42 scholarships overall were awarded to students from different disciplines, with an additional 20 students ranked in reserve.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Basic Proficiency in English (equivalent to English course B/6 from Swedish Upper Secondary School)

Proficiency in basic English can be proven by test scores from one of the following internationally approved tests:

  • IELTS (Academic) – minimum score 6.5 with no individual score below 5.5 (Tests taken before January 2008 are not admissible)
  • TOEFL – tests:
    – Paper-based; Minimum score 575 with minimum TWE score 4.5.
    – Computer-based; Minimum score 213 with minimum Essay Writing 4.0.
    – Internet-based (iBT); Minimum score 90 with minimum Writing score 20.
  • University of Cambridge/Oxford:
    – Certificate in Advanced English
    – Certificate of Proficiency
    – Diploma of English Studies
    – Oxford Delegacy Higher Examination
  • Michigan English Language Assessment Battery(MELAB) – minimum score 90
  • Advanced Placement International English Language (APIEL)
  • Pearson Test of English Academic: Score of 62 (writing 61)
